Following initial reports from the French media claiming Lorient had placed a bid for the signing of Alphonse Areola from West Ham United, we now get to see more details on that case.

The news is now brought by L’Equipe, who claims the Ligue 1 side only want the goalkeeper on a six-month loan.

The outlet claims this is an ‘interesting’ option for the 29-year-old, who’d like to have more playing time, especially because that would give him a chance of being part of the national team again, as they’ll be looking to put in place a new goalkeeper hierarchy in the squad following the retirements of Hugo Lloris and Steven Mandanda.

The interesting thing is that L’Equipe doesn’t bring anything about West Ham’s stance on the matter.

Back in the original report, made by Mohamed Toubache-Ter, it had been claimed that the club’s intention was to hold the player for now.

Areola has 11 appearances for the London side this season, and eight of them were in the Conference League, where he’s David Moyes’ starter for the position.

That even looks like some decent playing time for a goalkeeper who’s the squad’s number two, but he appears to have bigger aspirations right now.
