Last summer saw West Ham United spend a lot of money on Gianluca Scamacca, hoping he would finally bring an end to their centre-forward curse.
Unfortunately for the Hammers, the Italian struggled to quickly adapt to life and football in England, which left David Moyes in need of finding other solutions.
Scamacca then got injured, ruling him out for the rest of the season, which has led to talk of a potential return to Italy, as Gazzetta dello Sport bring the latest on the situation on Wednesday.
If you’ve been following the news of late, you’ll be aware that AS Roma are the ones trying to repatriate the forward, as they will be without Tammy Abraham for the first half of the campaign.
The West Ham forward is reportedly extremely keen to see the move go through, and Gazzetta go as far as stating the 24-year-old ‘has already accepted the proposal to return’ to his home country.
However, as previously reported, ‘the most difficult obstacle’ needs to be overcome, and that’s the fact the Hammers aren’t keen on a loan.
West Ham would ‘prefer to wait for more convenient offers to monetise’, although if nothing comes forward, they could give in and give Scamacca what he wants.
A good season in Italy could help everyone involved, and that’s why AS Roma ‘are in no hurry’, currently focusing on selling €30m worth of assets before June 30th.
