West Ham United midfielder Pablo Fornals could be a potential short-term option for Barcelona as they look to find a replacement for Gavi.
That’s according to journalist Bruno Alemany, who has suggested the West Ham man as a possible option to replace the stricken star short-term.
Gavi is set to miss the rest of the season after picking up a serious knee injury earlier this year, with estimates even suggesting he will miss both the Olympics and the Euros in the summer.
His injury has been sorely felt by Barcelona, who have missed him since he’s been out and, according to President Joan Laporta, they will look to replace him short-term in January if the finances allow.
The Catalans’ idea is to secure a short-term option, preferably on loan, to help fill the void created by Gavi’s absence and Alemany believes Fornals could be an option.
He recently appeared on Cadena SER to discuss the options being looked at by those in charge at the Camp Nou and, after suggesting Marco Verratti as one, then dropped in the West Ham man.
According to him, he would ‘fit within that profile’ Barcelona are looking for as he is not only Spanish but his contract with West Ham is due to expire in the summer and thus a ‘beneficial agreement’ could be reached between all the involved parties.
Quite what that agreement would entail isn’t made clear, but it would presumably involve West Ham receiving a small fee to avoid losing Fornals on a free in the summer.
Given he’s not featuring much for the Hammers this season that could be ideal for everyone, and it may be worth keeping an eye on potential developments, particularly if Barcelona cannot get any bigger name targets through the door in January.
