West Ham United midfielder Guido Rodríguez has insisted he’s not spoken to River Plate about a return this summer.
Estadio Deportivo cover comments from the midfielder made to D Sports, in which he insists a move is not on the cards as yet.
Rodríguez endured a difficult first season at West Ham last season after a summer move from Real Betis. He was initially a regular under Julen Lopetegui but found himself out of the team once the Spaniard was sacked and replaced by Graham Potter.
It’s believed that he is no longer a part of West Ham’s plans moving forwards and that has seen him linked with a move away this summer.
Several reports had linked him with a return to his former club River Plate, the club where he came through as a youngster. He only made 18 appearances for the club before moving Club Tijuana then América, Real Betis and eventually West Ham.
The idea was that he had unfinished business with the Argentine club and so could return to where he started. The West Ham man, though, insists that there’s been no contact.
“I know it came up, that there was a lot of talk about it, but the truth is that no one contacted me, nor did I speak to anyone at the club. I really had no contact,” he said
“(River Plate is) a top-level club worldwide, which has grown a lot in every sense.”
