On Monday, TuttoMercatoWeb reported Julen Lopetegui is expected to be offered a three-year deal by West Ham United.
Later that day, Sporting manager Rúben Amorim emerged as another candidate, and he even took a private jet to London to meet the West Ham owners.
Earlier today, we relayed news from Portugal that Amorim returned to Lisbon at 1am after meeting the Hammers. Then there was a fresh report from Portugal which stated that, so far, West Ham’s ‘seduction’ attempts haven’t worked.
The London club seem to have lined up Lopetegui as an alternative to the Sporting manager and Tuesday’s Gazzetta dello Sport provides the latest on the Spaniard.
Lopetegui has been without a job since leaving Wolverhampton Wanderers last August. He and Paulo Fonseca are in the front row to replace Stefano Pioli at AC Milan next season.
The Serie A side could face competition from West Ham, who are also looking to replace David Moyes. The 57-year-old is one of the targets and it’s claimed the Premier League side have ‘made an offer’ to him.
Gazzetta state West Ham want the manager situation to be resolved by ‘first days of May’. Despite the rich offer from the Hammers, Lopetegui has been waiting for Milan, and this gives the latter an advantage in appointing him as their next manager.
