West Ham United have contacted Beşiktaş about a potential loan move for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

That’s according to Sozcu, who report that West Ham are interested in bringing Oxlade-Chamberlain back to England before the end of the month.

According to them, the Hammers have been in touch with Beşiktaş about a move for the midfielder in the final days of the window.

They want to take advantage of the Turkish club’s financial situation and the player’s desire to return home from his spell in the Super Lig.

They are not the only Premier League side to show an interest, with West Ham, Brentford, Crystal Palace, Wolves and Nottingham Forest also in the running for him. The race for his signature could be a competitive one but West Ham have made their move first it seems.

There is an obstacle, though, and that is West Ham need to make space in their squad. Sozcu say this would be done by letting Tomas Soucek or James Ward-Prowse depart but the latter is already on loan at Nottingham Forest.

They also say that West Ham’s ‘other target’ is Carlos Soler, but he is already on loan at the club from Paris Saint Germain. There has been talk of him being signed on a permanent basis this month, though.

Both of these things, plus the idea that Oxlade-Chamberlain wants to return and suddenly has several suitors available at the end of the window mean we’re a little doubtful of this one for now.

He may be a name to keep an eye on in the coming days but given West Ham’s need for a striker, we’d be surprised if their efforts aren’t all focused on that and not adding another midfielder to their group.
