West Ham United have been credited with interest in Tammy Abraham for much of the summer window, with the striker someone AS Roma wouldn’t be against seeing the back of between now and Friday.
Much of the slant this summer has been that the Hammers are one of a number of Premier League clubs, albeit certainly the one named most, who are keen on bringing the player back to English football.
Sunday’s edition of Corriere dello Sport reports ‘Hammers on Tammy’ and says Abraham is back in the sights of the London club, who are described as looking for a centre forward.
West Ham are said to have ‘sounded out’ the 26-year-old, but haven’t yet ‘presented an official offer’ to Roma. The potential price is put at €23-25m.
Over at Corriere della Sera they say Abraham is ‘outgoing’ and West Ham have ‘asked for information again’.
Interestingly, a lot of the earlier claims had been insistent about Abraham not wanting a move to West Ham or a return to the Premier League generally this summer, and that stance has now been dropped.
Julen Lopetegui’s side have already signed Niclas Füllkrug, so it may be questionable whether they want another striker.
However, Abraham could be available for less than what is being reported right now in Italy and potentially even on a loan, with conditional purchase clause, deal given his contract lasts until 2026 and he needs games.
He only got one minute in Roma’s first match of this season and his last campaign was largely wiped with a cruciate ligament injury, so it’s a big ask for someone to pay a relatively high fee.
