West Ham United are currently refusing to negotiate a loan deal with AS Roma for striker Gianluca Scamacca, despite the player having an agreement in place with the Italians.
That’s according to Il Messaggero, who say the West Ham man remains a more viable option for Roma than Alvaro Morata given the numbers involved in both deals.
The newspaper explains that the ‘dream’ for Roma fans is that Scamacca and Morata both arrive at the club in this window, but the reality is that only one will be signed.
Morata is more than ready to make the switch and Jose Mourinho would love to have him, but for that to happen the player would have to drastically reduce his wage packet.
A negotiation is underway to make that happen, and a loan cannot be ruled out, although Atletico Madrid would need to be convinced on that.
As a result, Scamacca is ‘still in the game’ because he could be signed from West Ham on loan with a right to buy ‘much more easily’ than Morata.
In fact, the striker has already ‘found an agreement’ with Roma and is ready to move, but for now the Hammers only want to negotiate a full transfer after paying €36m for him a year ago.
The ‘games are open’ on that front and negotiations underway but Scamacca’s long gestating move seems to be reliant on West Ham changing their opinion.
