West Ham United may target a move for Lille coach Paulo Fonseca in the summer, if David Moyes leaves as expected.
That’s according to journalist Ignazio Genuardi, who says West Ham are ‘considering’ the Portuguese coach among the potential candidates to replace Moyes.
According to the information, Fonseca is not ‘indifferent’ to the potential interest from the Hammers, with his current contract set to expire in June 2024.
Moyes’ current deal at the London Stadium is set to run until the same point but he has been heavily linked with a departure from West Ham at the end of the season.
Despite leading the Hammers to a European final, they have had something of a disappointing season in the Premier League, where they had been threatened with relegation for much of the season before a late surge ensured they were not pulled into the mix.
Still, there is a belief that Moyes may have led West Ham as far as he can and there are persistent rumours that he will either be replaced at the end of the campaign or walk away.
A replacement would have to be sought in either eventuality and Genuardi insists that Fonseca, who has guided Lille to fifth in Ligue 1 this season and two points outside the top four, will be on the list of candidates on West Ham’s list.
They are currently ‘thinking’ about him as they plan for the future, although it made clear he has several admirers in Europe and they could, therefore, face competition for him.
