West Ham United and Aston Villa are in the picture to sign Real Sociedad’s Brais Méndez.
The Spaniard has three goals and three assists from 23 games this season while operating mainly as an attacking midfielder and at times in the middle of the pitch.
Méndez’s performances for the La Liga side have seen both West Ham and Aston Villa take notice.
That’s at least what Friday’s edition of AS is reporting, and they say the Premier League duo appreciate the 27-year-old’s quality. The Hammers seem to be ahead of Unai Emery’s side in the race to sign the player, who can also operate on the right wing.
It’s claimed Julen Lopetegui is interested in improving West Ham’s attack by signing his compatriot.
The newspaper’s headline says the London club ‘bid for’ the Real Sociedad player, but this isn’t backed up further within the report. There’s also no mention of the fee West Ham are offering for him.
Méndez’s deal lasts until 2028, and the report states it includes a €60m release clause. La Real, for their part, have no plans to negotiate, meaning West Ham or Aston Villa would be asked for the clause… at least when negotiations started.
