Carlos Corberán arrived at Valencia in December 2024, after spending over two years at West Bromwich Albion. He helped the La Liga club finish 12th last season.
Leaving West Brom was a big decision, but he did so to help Valencia steer away from relegation issues.
The manager is now in his first full season since leaving West Brom. Los Ches have two wins and eight points after eight league matches and are currently 15th, two points above the relegation zone.
Last month, Corberán was being questioned for the first time since his West Brom exit.
Fast forward to October, and Friday’s edition of AS says the 42-year-old has issues to resolve at Mestalla. The former Baggies boss has tone major problem and it’s his side’s defensive record.
Valencia have conceded 14 goals from eight matches, and the newspaper points out this is their worst record in nine years.
Despite that, they were closer to the danger zone in the first half of last season. hence Corberán’s arrival from West Brom. Even then, AS say the Spanish club didn’t concede as many goals as they have done in this season.
First-choice goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili left Valencia for Liverpool in the summer. The newspaper explains this and José Gayà’s ‘inconsistent’ performances have had an impact.
