Over the past month the Brazilian media have constantly covered Flamengo’s desire to sign Arsenal’s Jorginho. These links intensified after the 33-year-old’s trip to Rio de Janeiro during the last international break.
The Brazil-born Italy international is likely to leave Arsenal when his contract expires in June.
Last month, the Arsenal player said he’s ‘curious’ to experience Brazilian football, after Flamengo technical director José Boto confirmed his side’s interest. Boto had then stated the ball is in the midfielder’s court, meaning he needs to make the final decision.
The official doubles down on Flamengo’s interest in the former Napoli star and reiterated the final decision is down to the player. He stated this during a chat with FlaZoeiro and Coluna Do Fla have relayed his comments.
“We never deny that he is a player that interests us. We are in a negotiation process and, as I said, I never reveal anything about a negotiation process. And what comes out in public, 99% of the time is not true. The ball is in his court, Jorginho’s, and he will treat it well and will play this game with us,” he said.
Flamengo have qualified for the FIFA Club World Cup that will kickstart on June 14th. They can have Jorginho in the squad if he were to terminate his contract at Arsenal, which expires at the end of that month.
Earlier this week, claims from Brazil stated Jorginho would terminate his contract with the Gunners after this season in May, to join Flamengo for free.
