On January 14th, UOL stated Tottenham Hotspur have reached an agreement in principle with Bahia for Alejo Véliz’s permanent transfer.
Last weekend, Pagina12 reported Spurs have accepted the Brazilian club’s €8.6m offer.
Tottenham let the striker join Rosario Central on a season-long loan deal in July. The 22-year-old has scored five goals and contributed one assist in 1,361 minutes from 16 matches. The Premier League side’s recall clause is no longer valid.
Therefore, Thomas Frank’s side have to find an agreement with the Argentine club to cut short his loan stay. Tottenham need this to send him to Bahia, a club owned by the City Football Group, who also own Manchester City.
Four days ago, El Ciudadano explained Bahia’s offer is tempting for both Tottenham and the Argentine. On Tuesday, Cádena 3 insisted the Premier League side can end this case by offering compensation to Rosario Central. That hasn’t happened yet.
Véliz’s current teammate, Enzo Giménez, spoke at a press conference on Thursday and La Capital have relayed his comments.
The outlet says the 27-year-old Paraguayan has developed a good friendship with the Tottenham man.
Giménez was asked whether he has spoken to Véliz about the possibility of him moving to Brazil. When responding to that, he urged the frontman to continue to Rosario Central.
“I don’t like to talk about personal matters like that. All I want is for him to stay with us because he’s a great player. We and the club need him. We’re very happy with him, so hopefully he can stay a while longer,” he said.
Player urged to snub Tottenham efforts to sell him
Véliz joined Tottenham from Rosario Central in August 2023. He found it difficult to get regular playing time at the north London club.
Tottenham sent him on loan to Sevilla and Espanyol between for 18 months and the South American failed to impress in Spain. He returned to his former club last summer and Spurs are trying to cash in from his sale.
