On winter deadline day, Tottenham Hotspur completed the signing of Mathys Tel on loan from Bayern Munich, after he initially rejected the north London club.
The 19-year-old wasn’t a key part of Vincent Kompany’s plans as he played 458 minutes from 11 games for Bayern Munich this season. His limited role convinced the Bundesliga club to send him out on loan.
Prior to joining Tottenham, several other clubs had shown interest in the striker and this includes Eintracht Frankfurt.
That’s according to Sky Deutschland journalist Kerry Hau, who took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to report this.
Hau also had a chat with Eintracht Frankfurt manager Dino Toppmöller, and he expressed his disappointment over losing Tel to Tottenham.
“Mathys was a topic of discussion during several transfer windows because I know him and we have a connection,” he said.
“Unfortunately, it didn’t work out the way we hoped, but ultimately, he has to make the decision for himself.”
Tel can come up against the German club when they face Tottenham in the Europa League later this month. The manager is looking forward to facing the France U21 international and backed him to have a bright future.
“He’s a great player, a good boy, a good person, who will certainly have a great career,” Toppmöller explained.
The attacker has played 489 minutes from eight games for Spurs, managing one goal in the process.
Two months ago, Hau reported Tottenham have an option to buy Tel, which they can’t exercise unilaterally. He stated Spurs will need the Frenchman’s approval to buy him.
