Cádiz CF sporting director Juan Cala has admitted they will look to extend Antoñito Cordero’s loan spell from Newcastle United in the summer.

AS cover comments from Cala today after he was officially revealed as a new Cádiz player. The youngster has joined the Spanish side on loan until the end of the season.

He only joined Newcastle on a free transfer in the summer from Málaga. He was immediately loaned out to Westerlo to gain experience and establish himself in Europe.

That loan move in Belgium proved to be something of a disaster, though. He managed just eight appearances totalling 102 minutes for the Belgian side while he was there. That deal has now been cancelled, and he’s since joined Cádiz on loan until the end of the season.

The hope now is that the highly rated youngster, who was also chased by Barcelona and Real Madrid before joining Newcastle, can get back on track in his homeland.

That may take longer than six months, and Cala has admitted he’d be happy to extend that. He’d need Newcastle’s help to make that happen, though.

“There’s a possibility that his mother, who’s a Cádiz fan, and his father, who wants to build a house, could stay,” he said.

“Antonio’s level of play and his Newcastle contract are long. If he’s happy and we’re doing well, it would be great if he stayed here for many years. He’s a player in the Cádiz style. He has a long contract with Newcastle, and we can’t compete with that.”
