Watford are reportedly still in negotiations for Benfica winger Andre Carrillo.

According to A Bola today, the Hornets are still looking to find a way to complete the transfer, which is more likely to be a loan with an option to buy.

After the Peruvian’s one season without impressing at the Lisbon side, Benfica will be happy to offload the player this summer. Getting rid of his high salary would be good, and a fee from Watford to recover the investment made to sign him would be even better.

Carrillo had a controversial exit from local rivals Sporting in 2016, and despite having joined Benfica on a free transfer, €6.6m was paid in signing prizes.

A Bola claims that Carrillo and manager Rui Vitória are still focusing on the player succeeding, but the Eagles’ board are open to negotiate his sale with Watford.

This is quite a strange story, because earlier this week, the very same A Bola had reported that Carrillo rejected the move, and they don’t even mention this denial now.
