Watford star Ismaila Sarr has travelled to Spain to visit Dr Ramon Cugat regarding his knee injury.
That’s according to Diario El Progreso, who say the player has been undergone ‘assessments’ and ‘finally admitted’ he is unable to play.
Sarr was due to play for Senegal at the Africa Cup of Nations this month, but Watford refused to release him, insisting the player was suffering with a knee injury.
Senegal aren’t happy with the situation, and coach Aliou Cisse has stated he hopes the 23-year-old will be available for the knockout phases of the tournament at the end of this month.
Sources close to Vicarage Road say they are currently ‘coordinating a recovery plan’ with Dr Cugat to ‘find the best way to make all parties happy’.
Sarr is currently in Spain deciding on the best place to continue his rehabilitation, and Watford are sharing all the relevant information with Senegal to ensure both parties are ‘up to date’ on the situation. The hope is that they can ‘avoid further controversy’.
The issue of the injury has been a ‘contentious’ one between Watford and Senegal, and a disagreement between the two sides ‘has been brewing for weeks’.
It seems they are now trying to work in a more collaborative manner, although there may be more issues on the horizon if Dr Cugat’s assessments favour one over the other.
