Following Watford’s defeat to Norwich City at the weekend, it was perhaps only a matter of time before the Hornets dispensed with the services of Claudio Ranieri.
The manager spoke after the game about choosing the players who would battle for the team and build a togetherness, to make sure relegation to the Championship was avoided.
Clearly, those in charge at Watford weren’t convinced that Ranieri was the right man to save their Premier League status, and his dismissal was announced on Tuesday, to the surprise of absolutely nobody.
Now it’s time for Watford to find themselves a new leader, and AreaNapoli reports they contacted Gennaro Gattuso ‘last night’.
The Pozzo family are said to have reached out to the Italian and put on the table an offer to manage them for five months, until the end of the current campaign.
There would then be options for an extension, based on how the season ended.
AreaNapoli say Gattuso felt this period was too short to be able to have a real impact, and therefore declined the proposal.
