Watford ‘gave the go-ahead’ to Yaser Asprilla to join up with Colombia’s U-20 squad for the upcoming U-20 World Cup.
That’s according to journalist Pipe Sierra, who says the Watford man is ‘already in the country’ and will travel to Bogota this weekend to join up with his international teammates ahead of their pre-tournament training.
The 23rd edition of the FIFA U-20 World Cup is set to start on the 20th of May in Argentina, with 24 teams from around the world competing.
Colombia are one of them after they qualified from CONMEBOL alongside Brazil, Ecuador, Uruguay and hosts Argentine.
They’ve never won the tournament but are looking to change that this year with a current crop of highly rated Colombian youngsters coming through the ranks.
Asprilla is one of them and one of the more experienced played in the group, having been a regular for Watford this season with 37 appearances in the Championship to his name this season.
Him being a part of the squad raised questions about whether he would be allowed to leave but Sierra says that the Hornets already ‘gave the go ahead’ for him to be a part of the tournament.
According to his information, Asprilla is already in his home country and is set to travel to the capital this weekend ahead of linking up with his country and taking part in their pre-tournament training camp.
Whether he is a regular for them and can impress in Argentina remains to be seen, but it seems the issue of him being there has already been sorted.
