As far as results go for Watford, a 3-1 win, albeit at home, against Manchester United is as good as it gets.
The Hornets took full advantage of the Red Devils’ sub-par performance to come out winners thanks to goals from Etienne Capoue, Carlos Zuñiga and Troy Deeney, but their defensive efforts should not be ignored either.
Both Miguel Britos and Sebastian Prödl were exemplary in their displays against Anthony Martial, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Marcus Rashford, even if the latter did still manage to get on the scoresheet.
According to the Uruguayan defender, having faced the impressive Swedish striker in the past certainly helped in their attempts to deal with him.
Speaking to Sport890, relayed by Ovacion Digital, he said: “It wasn’t the first time I played against him, I did so when he was at Inter and AC Milan. We were able to control him, as well as Rooney.
“He’s a bit arrogant and gets annoyed easily. He really doesn’t like being touched… but he’s still a phenomenon. He’s a very complete player and a great.”
Explaining it was difficult to mark Zlatan for 90 minutes, Britos also praised the rapport the clubs have with fans in England, something that doesn’t really happen in Serie A.
Arriving from Napoli last season, the defender made 27 appearances in all competitions for Watford last season under Quique Sanchez Flores, and has now made four for new manager Walter Mazzarri.
