Watford are interested in KV Kortrijk striker Pape Habib Gueye but face competition from Championship side Millwall.
That’s according to Het Laatste Nieuws, who say Millwall have already seen a €1.5m bid rejected by the Belgian side.
The newspaper says Gueye is ‘in the frame’ for Watford as they look to give Claudio Ranieri signings to bolster his squad.
Gueye is currently out injured after he tore his meniscus against Cercle Brugge in December and is ‘still out for a while’ with that injury.
Before that injury, he had been in decent form for Kortrijk, with six goals and one assist in 18 games in all competitions so far. That has earned him attention from Watford, who have him ‘in the frame’ for a transfer.
The newspaper does not make it clear whether the Hornets are looking at a move in the January transfer window or at some point in the future.
Given his injury, a move would make little sense this month, but perhaps Ranieri and co. are simply trying to get ahead of the competition.
At the minute, Millwall are the ones who are providing that after seeing a €1.5m bid rejected, and it’s not clear if they’ll be returning with an improved bid any time soon.
It seems Kortrijk aren’t going to sell on the cheap, though, so there is negotiating to be done if Watford do want Gueye.
