Liverpool could make a surprise move for Brighton and Hove Albion manager Roberto De Zerbi to replace Jurgen Klopp, with Napoli seemingly not convinced they can get him.
That’s according to journalist Emanuele Cammaroto who has revealed all in comments relayed by Calcio Napoli 24.
Liverpool are of course set to be on the hunt for a new manager in the summer after Klopp announced he would be stepping away from Anfield at the end of the season.
A growing list of names have been linked with the position since, with the current favourite seemingly Bayer Leverkusen’s Xabi Alonso.
Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi has also been tipped, though, having earned himself a growing list of admirers thanks to the superb work he’s been doing with the Seagulls since replacing Graham Potter in September 2022.
Since that point he’s led them to Europe for the first time, where they’ve been impressing this season, and continued the club’s development of talent all while playing an attractive, attacking brand of football.
And that could put him in line at Liverpool, at least according to Cammaroto, who believes they’re one to look out for when it comes to the Italian.
“Coach chapter: after the ferryman Calzona, De Laurentiis wants an important profile,” he said in regard to the hunt for Napoli’s next manager.
“The list of “possible candidates” is narrowing. ADL is not giving up on Conte and is counting on the fact that Milan and Roma have distanced themselves from the coach and have other ideas for management technique for next season.
“De Laurentiis is waiting for the moment for a new meeting with the former coach of Juve, Inter, Chelsea and Tottenham. To date, the alternative leads that lead to Pioli (in the running to stay at Milan) and De Zerbi (destined for a big foreign team, perhaps Barcelona but watch out for Liverpool).
“Watch out for the Gasperini lead, who could take Atalanta to the Champions League and then leave the Orobic team.”
