As Everton fans wait to see how 777 Partners will take care of the club, should their takeover be approved, it’s obviously worth keeping an eye on how the company manages the other sides they own around the world.
One of them are Vasco da Gama, who were officially taken over in June last year.
Among the ups and downs that have been happening since then, Globo Esporte now reports something that worries the club fans, which is a transfer ban due to recent debts.
Lille, Nacional and Atletico Tucuman all contacted FIFA because of unpaid transfers, and were considered right in doing so.
777 Partners, who have reached an agreement to buy Everton from Farhad Moshiri, now plan to solve this issue with Vasco until the end of the year. The Brazilian transfer window is closed, with the season ending in December, so there’s no hurry to settle the debts now.
Club takeovers in Brazil work with periodic investments scheduled by the contracts. A new payment from 777 is expected by the 5th of October, and that should be enough to help cover those unpaid transfers.
This is the first full season Vasco have under the company. They didn’t win any titles, and are currently fight to escape relegation in the Brazilian league. Their fanciest signing was probably the one of Dimitri Payet, who arrived from Olympique Marseille.
Everton’s situation should be a little different, as Vasco had a more complicated financial scenario. But it’s worth watching how 777 deal with their problems in their first year in Brazil.
