Midfielder Radja Nainggolan has sent something of a warning to Aston Villa’s current squad following his experience under director of football Monchi.
The midfielder, who is currently a free agent and looking for his next club, after leaving Italian side SPAL in the summer and has been speaking to Sport Paper TV, relayed by Mundo Deportivo, regarding the Aston Villa director.
They were the latest in a long line of clubs for the Belgian midfielder, who has also turned out for the likes of Inter Milan, Royal Antwerp, AS Roma and Cagliari to a name but a handful.
He spent several years at Roma, initially joining them on loan from Cagliari before then joining on a permanent basis in a €15m deal in July 2014.
He remained at the club until 2018 when he was sold to Inter Milan, a deal that was overseen by then director of football Monchi, who had arrived at the Italian club from Sevilla in April 2017.
The departure from Roma was something of a surprise given he had been the star of the show at the club, and they were selling to a rival in Serie A.
Nainggolan has now explained what happened, sending something of a warning to the playing squad at Aston Villa in the process.
“Why did Monchi throw me out?” he said.
“I never had problems with the locker room, but Monchi’s objective was to play with his players and expel Sabatini’s players.”
