Earlier this week, TuttoMercatoWeb reported Zenit have an interest in Matheus Cunha, but they will face ‘strong competition’ from Leeds United and AS Monaco.

The 22-year-old’s contract with Hertha Berlin runs down in 2025, yet there’s a good chance he could leave them this summer.

According to local newspaper BZ, the German club have Lyon’s Maxwel Cornet on ‘top of the wish list’.

Hertha’s Lucas Tousart shared the dressing room with the Ivory Coast international at the Ligue 1 side and the Bundesliga club’s leaders asked about Cornet with their own player.

It’s claimed Cunha ‘has to be sold’ for the Berlin based club to sign Cornet in the ongoing window.

Leeds are interested in the Brazilian and Marcelo Bielsa’s side are joined by Zenit, Inter, Monaco and Napoli. If the Whites or any other club pay ‘at least €30m’ to Hertha, they will sanction his transfer and invest part of the fee on signing Cornet.

Cunha was mainly used on the left wing, but he also operated as a centre forward and in the attacking midfield position last season. Whether or not Leeds will pay €30m to sign the versatile player remains to be seen.

The attacker is currently in Tokyo, where Brazil will take on Spain  on Saturday.
