Having moved on from their attempts to sign Houssem Aouar from Lyon, Nottingham Forest stayed in Ligue 1 to find an alternative.

The problem for Steve Cooper’s side is that despite their Premier League status, they remain a newly promoted club, which makes a few players doubt about their ability to stay up beyond the current campaign.

Money can change that for some players, but others look beyond the wages, and want to prove themselves in Europe if possible, which appears to be the case of Sofiane Diop, who looks to be leaving AS Monaco.

The 22-year-old is reportedly close to a transfer to OGC Nice, who recently qualified for the Conference League, and RMC Sport reveal a bit of extra information in there regarding Nottingham Forest.

Capable of playing through the middle or on either wing, Diop became a target for the City Ground side, who seemingly made an approach.

However, RMC Sport state that ‘a few days ago, the 22-year-old said no to Nottingham Forest’.

That will come as a blow to the Tricky Trees, but they will have a long list of players to target, and despite signing 16 new footballers to date, they don’t appear to be quite done yet.
