Impressing greatly with his energetic performances up and down Uruguay’s left flank, Diego Laxalt apparently caught the eye of West Ham scouts in Russia, if Gazzetta dello Sport are to be believed.

The story kicked off on Tuesday, with TuttoMercatoWeb claiming the Hammers had enquired about the Genoa defender, and were told they would require €20m to be convinced to let him go.

This came just after Primocanale’s report that Everton were lining up a €12m bid for the Uruguay international amid rumours Yannick Bolasie could be heading to Turkey.

Fast forward to Wednesday, and Gazzetta dello Sport report Laxalt now ‘has an offer’ from West Ham in front of him, suggesting the Hammers have gone behind Genoa’s back and had a quick chat with the 25-year-old.

While technically illegal, this happens all the time, mostly via intermediaries who are basically glorified messengers.

There’s no more information than that, which suggests West Ham are yet to put in a bid for Laxalt, which could happen if the defender/midfielder decides a move to the Premier League is what he needs in his career.

Where better than London Stadium with Manuel Pellegrini, right?
