Earlier this year, Claudio Echeverri completed a move to Manchester City and returned to River Plate on a loan deal until January 2025.

Recent claims have stated the Citizens intend to send the 18-year-old out on loan to Girona, while Olé stated earlier this month that Manchester City could offer him to Real Sociedad or Real Betis.

TNT Sports in Argentina report there’s been an ‘unexpected turn’ as River Plate are considering further extending his loan stay at the club.

The South American club have qualified for the Copa Libertadores and the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, and this seems to have convinced them to try to retain the Manchester City owned player until June 2025.

It’s claimed the River Plate management could start negotiations with Pep Guardiola’s side in the coming months, in order to delay Echeverri moving back to Manchester City by at least six more months.

TNT Sports say the attacking midfielder’s ‘family issues’ could make him consider staying at River Plate, without mentioning what those issues are.

Manchester City are in full control of the Argentina U23 international’s future and will have to make a decision.
