On Monday, Correio da Manhã reported Aston Villa have ditched their plan to sign Atlético Madrid’s João Félix, especially on a permanent transfer.
This was dismissed by Marca later that day, who said Aston Villa could bet decisively on the forward. It was also stated Moussa Diaby’s sale to Al-Ittihad for £50m can help them finance the deal for Félix.
Marca’s claim is backed up Tuesday’s edition of AS, who then provide more on Aston Villa’s plan for the 24-year-old.
The Villans are working to close Diaby’s transfer to Saudi Arabia. His exit will force them to look for a replacement and this is where the Portugal international fits in.
It’s claimed Unai Emery ‘pushes for João Félix’, meaning he’s leading Aston Villa’s pursuit of the attacker. He is scheduled to return to Atlético for pre-season training later this month, if his future isn’t sorted out by then.
The player’s relationship with Diego Simeone has deteriorated. He was on loan at Barcelona last season, and celebrated after scoring against Atlético, which didn’t please their players and supporters.
Both Atlético and Félix have no intention of continuing their association, and the Villans could open their door for him.
AS state: ‘A long summer is expected in Birmingham and the João Félix soap opera has only just begun.’ This indicates the deal isn’t expected to take shape anytime soon.
Félix is destined to leave Atlético, and his sale would help the club earn money. Emery’s side, who have become an ‘interesting ally’ for the player, can be a solution for him this summer.
