Unai Emery is leading Aston Villa’s interest in goalkeeper Álex Remiro, who could be an alternative option for them this summer.
That’s according to AS, who say Aston Villa are lining up options to potentially replace Emiliano Martínez, and Remiro is one of them.
Martínez gave a tearful farewell to Aston Villa at Villa Park on Friday, increasing speculation that he is set to bring his time at the club to an end this summer.
Aston Villa have certainly been linked with several new goalkeepers in recent weeks and AS report that Real Sociedad goalkeeper Remiro is one of the names they are looking at.
Unai Emery is the man who is particularly interested in his signature according to the newspaper. The goalkeeper’s current deal runs until 2027 and has a €70m release clause. It’s unclear if Aston Villa would pay anywhere near that fee, or even if they’d have to.
AS say Remiro has appeared committed to Real Sociedad in public and even referred to next season when asked about the subject. In other words, he is not publicly pushing for a move.
The Spanish side are expecting a long summer in which several key players depart and Remiro could be one of them, with Emery keen and Aston Villa seemingly on the hunt for a new goalkeeper.
