Of the more surprising things to happen this summer, Christian Eriksen failing to leave Tottenham is up there with them.
The Dane made it clear after the Champions League final defeat to Liverpool that he’d like to move on and it was assumed that would happen.
Except it hasn’t, with there not only being a surprising lack of interest in his services thus far but real, tangible transfer rumours around him. That may be set to change this week with AS reporting he now has options.
The newspaper says Real Madrid and Manchester United are both keen on Eriksen and he will get to choose which club he goes to.
Madrid are looking at him as an alternative to Paul Pogba, and the Bernabeu represents a ‘dream’ move for him. In fact, AS say he verbally agreed to the move months ago.
If the move for Pogba fails, which is looking increasingly likely, they will turn to Eriksen and can get him for €50m. They’re likely to wait until after the Premier League deadline on August 8th and believe signing Eriksen is ‘feasible’.
However, he is also said to be tempted by the offer from Old Trafford. Unlike Real Madrid, they’d have to pay €60m, but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is a big fan.
He suggested Eriksen as a potential signing back in March, when United first sat down to plan for next season and has been in regular contact with Denmark coach Age Hareide to discuss the midfielder.
It’s claimed United have accelerated their interest in the past few days and offered Eriksen a five-year deal on money similar to what Pogba earns now. That has tempted Eriksen into the move, and he’s convinced by the project being offered.
Either way, it seems Eriksen has offers on the table, and it’ll all revolve around what happens with Pogba. If the Frenchman goes to Madrid, he could end up in Manchester, although that would require a deal being done before Thursday. This has the deadline day mega move written all over it.
