Romelu Lukaku has no intention of returning to Chelsea or the Premier League this summer, despite his struggles at Inter Milan this year.
That’s according to Gazzetta dello Sport, who say the Belgian forward is ready to provide ‘two months of fire and goals’ after finally getting over the injury issues which have plagued his return to Inter this year.
He now feels ‘something has changed’ and his season can start now and plans to make it so that Inter are obliged to sign him again for next season.
He does not want to go back to Chelsea and consider his time at Stamford Bridge closed. He only sees himself at Inter moving forwards. Now it is time for him to ‘push the management’ at Inter into keeping him.
The only way to do that is to score ‘heavy goals’ between now and the end of the season, as he did in the Champions League against Porto.
The title is now out of Inter’s reach but there is plenty left to play for and Lukaku intends to be a key player to ensure Inter can be as successful as possible.
That would convince Inter to keep him and work out a deal with Chelsea, where Lukaku does not want to return at any point in the coming months.
Chelsea will clearly feel they hold more power here than Lukaku wants to acknowledge and they won’t want to capitulate to a poor deal for them, just because the striker pushes them to do so.
Things could therefore get entertaining in the coming months.
