We have a sneaky feeling Ivan Perisic to Manchester United rumours may get another outing ahead of the January transfer window, and that’s largely thanks to the player himself.
Ahead of Inter Milan’s match against Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League this week, Perisic made it clear he quite fancies a move to English football.
The Croatian, one of his country’s top stars at this year’s World Cup, said: “I have always said this is my dream, in football everything is possible, we will see in the future. Now I’m focusing on Inter.”
In an extensive interview with the latest edition of Four Four Two magazine (available either via an app or in newsagents, and a great subscription as a Christmas present) Perisic has spoken directly about Manchester United.
Asked how close he came to joining the Premier League club, he wasn’t scared to talk about what happened: “It’s true that an offer from Manchester United was on the table and that I was close to leaving Inter. But I decided to stay and, as I said, Spalletti’s perseverance to keep me played a big role. In football, small details in these situations are key.”
Perisic went on to explain how flattered he was to know Jose Mourinho wanted him, and that that it was ‘difficult’ not to think about such an offer.
Quizzed on potentially playing in England, the 29 year old said he wants to play in as many big leagues as possible, be that the Premier League or La Liga, adding: “I hope Inter fans can understand my point of view.”
Turning 30 years of age in February, Perisic needs to get a move on.
Let the rumours commence.
