AS Roma are now closer to an agreement for Chelsea centre-back Trevoh Chalobah, according to Italian reports.

As outlet Il Romanista today writes that the Giallorossi ‘absolutely need a central defender’, it seems they’ve now set the 24-year-old as a priority.

The report claims that Roma director Tiago Pinto has just returned from a ‘trip to London’, and there, he ‘secured an important agreement’ to sign Chalobah from Chelsea.

It’s said that Blues manager Mauricio Pochettino gave the green light for the move, as he’s not part of his plans, and the player’s arrival in Italy would be a ‘godsend’ for José Mourinho.

Despite claiming there’s an agreement, Il Romanista actually don’t bring many details about the deal, claiming Roma are set to try a loan move.

It looks more like Pinto got the green light from both Chelsea and Chalobah’s staff, and will now work on a formula to get the transfer done in the coming weeks as we near the January transfer window.

The defender is valued by Transfermarkt at €18m, and we shall see how much the Blues will manage to make with his departure, if anything, since AS Roma want to pay as little as money as possible for a reinforcements and it seems unlikely that the Stamford Bridge side would let him go permanently.
