Hull City have shown keen interest in signing FUS Rabat’s Yahya Benkhaleq in the summer window.

Earlier this month, Africa Foot reported the Tigers have agreed a €800,000 deal with FUS Rabat. They also stated the centre-back is set to sign a four-year contract with the English club.

A fresh report from Africa Foot now states the 23-year-old’s transfer to Hull City has been ‘aborted’.

They point out there was an agreement in place between all parties for the Moroccan to arrive at the Championship club next season. The transfer won’t go through because of the defender’s failure to secure a work permit to play in the UK.

Benkhaleq has spent his entire playing career so far in his country and hasn’t represented the national team yet. Therefore, he wasn’t eligible to obtain a work permit, and this was informed by an FUS Rabat official to Africa Foot.

After a failed move to Hull City, the Moroccan club tried to renew the player’s contract for three more years. He’s unlikely to sign an extension because Al Ain FC have now swooped in for him.

A source told Africa Foot that Benkhaleq is now insisting on joining the UAE club in the upcoming window. The same source also stated an agreement has been reached with Al Ain for a three-year contract, and FUS Rabat will collect €750,000 from his sale.
