Espanyol aren’t letting go of their dream to take Sergio Garcia back to the club, but the fulfillment of the wish could largely depend on West Brom and Tony Pulis.
Garcia joined Al-Rayyan in 2015 but the 33 year old forward is much wanted at his former club. Their former captain, Garcia is a huge favourite among supporters and the return would bring at least a short term boost of positivity.
That’s all covered by Spanish newspaper Marca on Thursday, but there remains one barrier in the way of Garcia’s return, and that’s Felipe Caicedo.
Espanyol signed Caicedo on a free transfer in 2014, and placed him on wages that were probably too high. The club no longer want to pay those wages and need the financial wriggle room to get Garcia.
West Brom have been repeatedly linked, along with Brighton, and now Espanyol will be hoping the Pulis interesting is genuine.
For West Brom signing the Ecuador striker would be a gamble, but such is Espanyol’s eagerness, the Baggies could probably get a loan cheaply as long as they covered the player’s wages.
