On Tuesday morning, we covered Portuguese newspaper O Jogo claiming Tottenham Hotspur have had a boost in their chase for Sporting midfielder Manuel Ugarte.
It was said that since the Lions are looking to get a bigger share of former Spurs player Marcus Edwards, they could include that in the talks with the London club for the Uruguayan player. That was clearly a boost for Tottenham chances of beating the competition to Ugarte.
Tottenham’s chase for the player had already been reported by the local media, and with this update, we now see some comments being made on Radio Renascença (via O Jogo).
“Looking at what Ugarte has done, it’s likely that his departure is inevitable. All it takes are the millions from England.”
Tottenham’s interest in Ugarte has been reported by the Portuguese media since September, when it was first said Spurs were in contact for the signing.
It turns out that the midfielder is having a good season with Sporting, and became more expensive in the past few months.
Ugarte is protected by a €60m release clause, and the Lions had been trying to increase that to €80m, but had no success for now.
