Benfica are keen on signing Manchester United’s Álvaro Fernández, who is currently on loan at Granada.
On Friday, O Jogo reported the Eagles are close to securing the left-back’s services and were deciding whether to buy or take him on loan with an obligation to buy.
Saturday’s A Bola states Benfica have agreed the final details of a deal with Manchester United, to sign the 20-year-old on loan with an option to buy set at €6m.
The Red Devils will have to cut short the youngster’s loan stay at the La Liga side before letting him join the Portuguese club. The newspaper states Erik ten Hag’s side have until Monday to activate the clause to bring him back to Old Trafford.
Therefore, Roger Schmidt’s side are stepping up their efforts and are hoping to resolve everything today. They have agreed a deal with the left-back, who’s seduced to join the Eagles.
Benfica have advanced discussions with Manchester United and the report states the two clubs were negotiating the last details of the deal yesterday. A Bola add bonuses are still to be clarified.
However, it’s made clear that there will be bonuses on top of that €6m and Manchester United will have a percentage of a sale for the future.
The player’s contract expires in June, so if A Bola’s claims are correct it’s likely there’s been at least a year extension to protect Manchester United given the clause is said to be an option rather than an obligation.
Fernández is included in Granada’s squad to face Real Betis later today and is waiting for his phone to ring, so that he can make a trip to Lisbon.
