Benfica are about to close the signing of Alvaro Fernandez from Manchester United, according to reports from Portugal.
Outlet O Jogo writes that the deal is ‘underway’ and being ‘finalised’, and that it can be closed in the ‘coming hours’ for a €10m fee.
The story claims that it’s now only being decided whether Benfica will buy him from Manchester United now or get him on a loan with the obligation of a purchase in the summer.
Fernandez himself is said to have ‘everything agreed’ with Benfica. He was on loan at Granada, but already communicated his exit to his manager and teammates.
It’s interesting that, earlier today, Portuguese newspaper Record had a front page story claiming the Eagles would be making a ‘final attack’ to get the Manchester United player signed. So it seems they worked fast to guarantee the signing.
Fernandez joined Manchester United back in 2020, and leaves the club without a single appearance for the first team.
