PSV Eindhoven have Brentford midfielder Mathias Jensen on their ‘follow’ list should Joey Veerman depart.

That’s according to journalist Rik Elfrink from Eindhovens Dagblad. He reports that the Brentford man is on PSV’s list, as Veerman is linked with the likes of Brentford.

The midfielder had appeared to be destined for a move to Fenerbahce. Reports from Türkiye and the Netherlands indicated that a deal was practically done.

It’s now been put firmly on hold, though, courtesy of a judicial investigation into Sadettin Saran, the Turkish club’s president. That’s put their transfer business on hold for the forseeable future.

In fact, it was even claimed that Brentford could now re-enter the picture. They tried hard to get Veerman in the summer but were pushed away by PSV, despite the midfielder making it clear he wanted to join the Bees.

The belief was that they would return in January with another attempt. And that appears to be on the cards now that Fenerbahce have been forced to temporarily hold off making their move.

Now, according to Elfrink, there could be even more of a tangle as PSV have a Brentford man on their list to replace Veerman should he leave.

“At PSV, 29-year-old Mathias Jensen from Brentford could be a potential addition to Sano if reinforcements are needed. He’s a “follow” option,” he said on X.

“Will Veerman’s transfer to Fenerbahce happen? There’s no “here we go” or “here we go” information. It’s a matter of waiting and seeing.”

The obvious solution, perhaps, would be for Brentford and PSV to arrange a deal including both players and cut out Fenerbahce entirely. Rarely, though, are January transfer dealings so simple.
