For the past week or so, reports coming out of the Catalan media have stated Arsenal are ahead of some other clubs in the chase for Athletico Paranaense’s Vitor Roque.
Edu Gaspar has reportedly been making efforts to convince the youngster and his family, showing a progression route and using Arsenal’s current Brazilians as an example.
It was also insisted the striker favours a move to Barcelona, despite the north London club’s interest. UOL in Brazil have a different take on this topic.
Roque’s agent, André Cury, was in London last month and had informal talks with Mikel Arteta’s side, who have already shown interest in the Brazil international.
Barca are also showing interest in the player, but Cury’s ‘bad relationship’ with them could make the negotiations difficult. Cury worked as the La Liga side’s representative in South America, before losing that post to Deco.
Roque’s deal expires in 2027 and includes a €100m release clause. UOL state Athletico Paranaense, who already rejected West Ham’s €14m offer, need at least €50m to sanction his sale.
Cury’s ‘bad relationship’ with Barcelona and Roque’s ‘will’ to move to the Premier League will come as a double boost for Arsenal in their pursuit to sign the frontman.
