Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea ‘knocked’ for Bayer Leverkusen’s Jonathan Tah in the winter market.
That’s according to Bild, and they state Spurs and the Blues had knocked on the German club’s door for the 28-year-old.
Bild indicate the centre-back’s former club, Hamburg, would welcome an approach from both Tottenham and Chelsea for the centre-back in the summer, as they will receive 10% of the profit from his sale.
Xabi Alonso’s side signed the Germany international from Hamburg for €7.5m in 2015, and the latter can collect €500,000 in bonuses every time Bayer Leverkusen qualify for the Champions League.
Hamburg have collected €1.5m in bonuses and are in line to collect another €500,000 in the next few months as Bayer Leverkusen are top of the table, 21 points ahead of fifth placed RB Leipzig.
They could receive more money if Tah were to change clubs. The report says it’s quite possible for him to be sold, considering Tottenham and Chelsea have already started their efforts to sign the defender.
It’s claimed only top English clubs that can offer Champions League football would be of interest for Tah. Tottenham are fifth in the table and 14 points ahead of Chelsea, who are in 11th spot.
