Even though the English media continues to insist there’s a strong chase from Newcastle United for Sporting defender Ousmane Diomande, the Portuguese press is taking it all very easy.
Newspaper A Bola is the one today covering the recent claims, and they point out the ‘tranquillity’ there is in Lisbon regarding the potential chase.
Sporting are said to have the ‘guarantee’ that Diomande is staying at the club at least until the end of the season, and don’t seem afraid of Newcastle’s pursuit.
The reason for it is that they won’t let him go unless his €80m release clause is triggered, and it seems there’s confidence that neither the Magpies nor anyone else will put that much money on the table.
Diomande is currently taking part in the Africa Cup of Nations, but is very much waited back at Sporting, who are on top of the Portuguese league table and count on him to win the trophy.
Newcastle may even get a chance to sign the defender in the summer, but so far, the Portuguese media is sounding very confidence that a January transfer is now a possibility.
