It’s fair to say that the relationship between Manchester United fans and Marouane Fellaini is a complicated one.
Unlike that between the Belgium international and José Mourinho, the midfielder is rarely seen as good enough to be a part of the Red Devils’ squad, and many wish he’d left in the summer instead of signing a new contract at Old Trafford.
In his home country, however, the view is different, with many praising Fellaini for his achievements.
So much so, in fact, that the town councillor in Jemappes, the town where he grew up, wants to immortalise the Manchester United player by painting a mural in his honour.
Fabio Antonini told La Province: “Having gone to school in Jemappes, having played football here and keeping to the idea of the urban renovation currently in place in the town (repainting the front of buildings), I propose that a fresco is dedicated to him.
“This would be to continue to give our children a positive image of their future development.”
On top of a whole wall being painted in his honour, Antonini would also like for the Manchester United midfielder to be given a key to the city.
This isn’t set in stone, but the proposal will be officially put forward on October 23rd, so we’ll be keeping an eye out to see if it’s accepted.
We can’t see them refusing. After all, who wouldn’t want to see a painting of Marouane Fellaini every single day on their way to work?
