On Thursday, Sport explained that Barcelona ‘fear’ Clément Lenglet is waiting to return to Tottenham Hotspur after spending last on loan at the north London club.
Last month, Barca president Joan Laporta admitted his side are in negotiations with Spurs for the defender’s transfer.
Tottenham haven’t yet managed to agree a deal with the La Liga side and are not likely to find one anytime soon, according to today’s La Vanguardia.
The Frenchman is left out of Xavi Hernández’s plans and his current salary has become a problem for the Catalan club. They have to get rid of him to lower their wage bill, which is necessary to register a few more players for the new season.
At the beginning of this window, it seemed like Tottenham would sign the centre-back. That didn’t happen and the newspaper adds the operation has now ‘cooled down a lot’.
This definitely wouldn’t please the 28-year-old who has prioritised a move to Spurs and continues to wait for them.
Lenglet has received an offer from Saudi Arabia but he’s not keen to make a switch there.
The player wants to continue in Europe and this may force Barca to open for another loan move, if they fail to find a buyer for him.
