Back in May, claims from Italian and Spanish press had talked about Aston Villa’s desire to sign Mario Hermoso. The Villans aren’t the only club after him as Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea are also in the picture.

That’s at least what Radio Punto Nuovo, relayed by CalcioNapoli24, are stating, and they mention Tottenham, Aston Villa and Chelsea when providing the latest on Napoli’s pursuit of the defender.

Hermoso left Atlético Madrid when his contract with them expired on June 30th, and is yet to find a new club. The Serie A side are keen on securing his services for free.

The 29-year-old has been in direct contacts with Antonio Conte in the last 48 hours, and the Napoli coach has asked him to wait until the club offloads at least one of Juan Jesus, Natan Leo Skiri Østigård before making an approach to sign him.

Hermoso has been charmed by the former Chelsea and Tottenham coach, and is willing to wait for Napoli. The gap between them and his entourage, likely over personal terms, has been resolved.

Napoli are waiting to get rid of one of the players before secure the Spanaird’s services, while Tottenham, Aston Villa and Chelsea remain the background.

Radio Punto Nuovo claim Spurs’ ‘dormant interest may become a problem’ for the Italian club as the weeks go by, while both Aston Villa and Chelsea have made ‘timid’ contacts with Hermoso’s entourage.

Napoli are still ahead, but they may face a risk of losing the player to the Premier League.
