In need of reinforcements down the left of their team, Tottenham, at Antonio Conte’s request, brought in Ivan Perisic on a free from Inter.

The Croatian has done well, but he is also 33 years of age, so he won’t stay at Spurs forever, which is why the club went after Destiny Udogie in the summer.

Not needing him straight away, Tottenham agreed to leave at Udinese for an extra season on loan in order to play regularly.

However, they did also include a clause that if the Serie A side didn’t use him, they could recall him in January to then perhaps find another solution.

Thankfully for all involved, that won’t happen, according to Messaggero Veneto, who write that Andrea Sottil, the Udinese manager, ‘won’t have to worry about find a new solution for the left wing’ because ‘Udogie won’t leave Udinese as early as January.’

That’s because the clause would only have happened ‘in the face of shelving’ of the player, meaning him continuously being benched, which hasn’t been the case, as he has played 12 times in all competitions, scoring two goals and picking up one assist.

Tottenham also ‘do not intend to force their hand’, as Conte wants other parts of his squad reinforced first.
