Tottenham will need another €30m if they are to convince Barcelona into a deal for Frenkie de Jong this summer.
That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who say the asking price for the Dutchman will be €100m if a sale is to take place at any point.
Reports throughout this week have linked Tottenham with a move for De Jong, with it first reported that they had made a €60m bid for and that followed up by a claim they would go as high as €70m.
Mundo Deportivo now say neither bid would be enough as Barcelona want at least €100m if they are to sell the midfielder this summer.
The newspaper explains that De Jong ‘would be open to listening to offers’ this summer with several big sides, including PSG, eyeing him up.
That’s because Barcelona are edging towards selling him as the player is yet to agree to a new contract on reduced terms, despite it having been on the table for three weeks.
The Catalan club are insisting that if he is to remain at the club, he will have to reduce his wages and fit in with the new salary system. If that doesn’t happen, they will ‘open the doors’ to his departure but any interested parties will need to present an offer of €100m to the club.
That’s a figure PSG would be able to match as they’re set to be flush with cash from Kylian Mbappe’s departure. They would be able to pay that figure and pay his current salary at Barcelona without any problems.
It would then be up to De Jong to decide whether he goes there or fancies the Premier League, where Tottenham ‘have already shown their interest in him’.
They’re very much in the picture for the Dutchman, at least according to Mundo, but they’ll need to raise their efforts considerably to get to Barcelona’s asking price.
