Tottenham Hotspur chief Fabio Paratici and their manager, Antonio Conte, have long been admirers of Nicolò Zaniolo, even before they arrived at the north London club last year.
The duo were keen on bringing the AS Roma star to the Premier League in the summer window.
According to Calciomercato.it, Tottenham and Juventus were the two clubs in the picture for the winger.
However, the Old Lady decided not to proceed further after their Serie A counterpart refused to accept any player[s] as a part of the deal.
Spurs, on the other hand, ‘tried the most to understand the room for maneuver’ in signing the Italy international.
Unfortunately for both Conte and Paratici, they had to ‘deal with the clear stance’ maintained by José Mourinho and Roma general manager, Tiago Pinto.
The former Manchester United boss was against the idea of selling the 23-year-old, while Pinto wanted €50-60m ‘cash’ for his prized asset.
With Tottenham and other clubs failing to sign the star, the report states the Giallorossi will focus on extending his contract.
His current deal runs down in 2024 and is demanding €4m net plus bonuses to renew the deal. Roma, for now, are offering €3m net plus bonuses.
The distance between the two parties isn’t insurmountable and the two parties will try to reduce the gap during September’s international break.
