As we enter the final week or so of the January transfer window, certain situations are going to heat up quite considerably.
One of those appears to be the chase for Nicolo Zaniolo, who appears on his way out of AS Roma as long as the right offer, perhaps from Tottenham, lands on the Serie A club’s desk.
Spurs’ interest in the player is no secret, with both Fabio Paratici and Antonio Conte big fans of the player, but they are yet to make the right offer to convince the Italians.
This is the idea pushed by the vast majority of the Italian newspapers on Monday, starting with Gazzetta dello Sport.
They get straight to the point, explaining that the player’s agent, Claudio Vigorelli, is ‘planning a telephone appointment with Fabio Paratici’, with it made clear that Tottenham is Zaniolo’s ‘favourite destination’.
He might have been approached by the likes of West Ham and Leicester, but he seemingly doesn’t see himself there.
Roma want €30m for their player, and would be open to a loan with a mandatory option to buy, ‘but not under certain conditions’ such as Spurs qualifying for the Champions League.
What could be an issue for Tottenham at this point is the interest of Milan, who are ‘ready to intervene for the summer because the player is interested’.
The problem for Roma here is that they don’t want to wait that long, as his value will drop.
Corriere dello Sport have a similar angle, revealing that, as things stand, ‘the only team that could convince Roma to sell are Tottenham’, who ‘could put a player as a technical counterpart’ in the deal, although who that would be has still to be defined.
As for Tuttosport, they also mention Milan, and explain both the San Siro side and Spurs ‘have the approval of the player’ as a next destination, meaning it’s all up to the clubs now to reach an agreement.
